Last week I lost my best friend, Tanner. He was the greatest dog ever, always by my side and seemed to understand my every word and emotion. Towards the end he would look at me with those sad brown eyes and tell me that he knew the end was near.
The day I had to take him to the vet (I believe this is that last gift of love you can give your pet) he said, in so many words, I know...I will miss you too.
I stayed with him until his beautiful loving soul left his body and still feel he is with me in spirit every day that I have to go on without him. I know some of you will think I'm crazy, but on the days when the tears come, I can feel him in my arms telling me that everything will be alright and to go on with my life.
We shared 12 years of fun and good times together -- and I'm thankful for that!
Those of you who read this will have mixed feelings, I know. Only the ones who care deeply for animals will really understand, and I love you for that!
